INDIA'S most powerful 4 petaflop super computer pratyush made it to 39th spot on the top 500th list of super computer in the world.It is the first multiplication petaflop super computer in our country which is being used to check and improve weather report and climate prediction monsoon predictions and extreme events such as tsunami,earthquakes,cyclones,drought e.t.c.
pratyush is setup in indian institute of trophical meteorlogy(IITM) in pune.pratyush has small brother mihir,which is 2.9 petaflop super computer setup at national centre for medium range weather forecast in noida.mihir's rank 66th in the top 500th super computer in the world.
including mihir and pratyush india has 5 super computer in the top 500th super computer in the world.Three of these facilities are dedicated to running simulation ,weather checking e.t.c.while fourth one is belongs to indian institute of science and fifth one is in a software company
BUT still its position is 39th in the top 500th.china and us has majority of world's most powerful super computer.IBM built summit housed at oak ridge national laboratory in tennessee .which has peak speed of 187 petaflop.it is 45 times powerful than pratyush.
